Francis Atkinson, MSc/Dip Psychotherapy,Reg. MBACP (Senior) Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, Reg. UKCP Psychotherapist
I am a very experienced and qualified Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor. I have over 26 years experience of working with individuals and couples in a variety of settings that includes male/female, adults/adolescents (17+), different cultural heritages and ethnicities, and also sexualities.
During my own previous therapy (10+ years), and my own development as a counsellor and psychotherapist I have come to realise how important the reliability of the therapist is to the client work, and also the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and client. Whether the issue is more specific, such as; bereavement, alcohol use, redundancy, relationship issues or, more psychologically defined issues, such as, anxiety, identity, depression, self-confidence, self-esteem, sexuality, complex trauma or abuse, and so on, what is most important of all for the therapy to work, is to have a good working relationship between client and myself so that the issues that are being worked on can be done so in a containing environment of respect, trust, acceptance and safety, so that resolution and change can hopefully take place.
Choosing the right therapist
I understand how difficult it often is to know what counsellor or psychotherapist to choose, both on a personal basis, but also in terms of the issue(s) you may be bringing. It sometimes feels like 'pot luck'. It is for this reason that I have chosen to offer all prospective clients a free 30 minute consultation session, without commitment at this initial stage. This is so that we can meet and talk about the issue(s) that are affecting you, and any questions you may have for me. This may be to do with my practice, theoretical stance, training and/or experience, as well as discussing professional practice issues, such as, confidentiality, fees, cancellation policy, etc. Part of this process is also to see whether it feels right for us to work together. And, as said before, there is no commitment to starting therapy at this stage.

In offering this space, we would hopefully also get a sense of whether it feels right for us to work together. Other options would also be discussed if appropriate.

Couples - £80 to £110 per 60 minute session.
NB: At Bethnal Green Counselling I do not want to exclude any individual who needs counselling, but who may not be able to pay the standard fee range. Ie would therefore be very happy to discuss this with you in person or at the initial contact.
