Counselling/Psychotherapy Experience

I am a qualified counsellor/therapist with 20 years experience working with female/male individuals, couples and groups of all ages, cultural backgrounds and sexual orientations.

I have extensive experience of working in various settings within the NHS and spent 11 years as a Staff Counsellor, working with NHS, Social Services and Local Authorities staff members and dealing with work-related issues such as, stress, trauma, bullying, harassment, redundancy, retirement and work/life balance, to name but a few.

I also have many years experience of working in the areas of harmful dependency and addiction to drugs, alcohol, gambling, shopping, sexual activities, internet pornography and destructive relationships.

As well as the issues above I have experience in working with: a general disatisfaction with life and feeling stuck, self-defeating/repeating relationship patterns, sex and sexuality issues, abuse (of all types), anxiety and depression, phobias, loss and bereavement and difficulties with anger, to again name but a few.


Professional Qualifications/Accreditation/Memberships

My professional counselling/therapy training began in 1990, whilst I was working as a Project Worker and Counsellor in a residential setting with male long-term substance misusers.

I gained a PG Cert/Dip/MSc from Birkbeck College, University of London in Psychodynamic Counselling & Psychotherapy and Oganisational Consultancy (BACP Accredited training), and have gone on to do further training in Clinical Assessment, Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Time-Limited Counselling and Therapy, and the application of Attachment Theory to the practice of counselling and psychotherapy.

I am a Senior Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP Snr. Accred) and registered with the United Kingdom Register for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP Ind Reg). I am also a full member of the Birkbeck Counselling Association and the Association of Independent Practitioners, and an associate member of the Association for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the NHS.


How I work

In my work with individuals and couples I use an integrative approach drawing on various theories (psychodynamic, cognitive, systemic, humanistic, transpersonal) and concepts depending on what is being brought into the therapeutic space and our work together, and dependent on the presenting issues/needs I can offer both short-term focused counselling/therapy and/or longer-term in-depth psychotherapy.

Underpinning the various approaches is the importance of the therapeutic relationship as the main catalyst for change. The building of trust, safety, reliability, containment and a relationship that is robust enough to manage all that is brought into the therapeutic space are vital components in the 'healing process'.


What to do now and fees

I offer an initial appointment where the reasons why help is being sought can be explored and considered, and to see if what I can provide is appropriate and that we feel comfortable in working together.

My fees for counselling and psychotherapy are:

Individuals: £38 to £48 (50 minute session)

Couples: £50 (60 minute session)

Clinical Supervision: £40 to £50 (60 minute session)
